Presented at Milan’s Fuorisalone 2023, AbitAZIONE is an immersive generative art installation that shifts the spotlight toward the lived experiences of residents in the city’s working-class neighborhoods. Set within the Spazio Mutuo Soccorso (SMS) in San Siro, the work centers on a luminous totem that displays complex data visualization. This visual narrative is built from a massive dataset of images, voices, and information collected directly from the local community, transforming raw data into a poetic reflection of urban life.

The experience is further enriched by a soundscape composed of authentic audio recordings from within the SMS walls, allowing visitors to step into a shared collective memory. By prioritizing a purely sensory and perceptive approach, the project bypasses common media prejudices regarding housing emergencies and squatted spaces. Ultimately, AbitAZIONE acts as a catalyst for collective action, reframing self-managed spaces as hubs of mutualism, inclusion, and human dignity.
